Hi, I am Seren, I am an intuitive, patient and nurturing tutor who strives to build confidence in my students. I have a calm and patient style to make sessions as stress free as possible, for both you and your child. I appreciate that learning is a journey, and has many ups and downs. Accordingly, I take time to help build resilience in my students, as well as focusing on their academic goals.
I am a fully qualified primary teacher and have been tutoring for over 14 years. I spent two years working as a class teacher in a London primary school before becoming a private tutor. As a tutor, I have worked in different settings, including schools, a private education centre and in people’s homes. I tutor mainly in person, however I am also able to tutor online using Zoom and BitPaper.
All of the lessons that I plan are adapted specifically to the needs of the student. No two students will have exactly the same lesson planned. Whilst I carefully plan lessons for students in advance of the session, they are not set in stone. I like to allow for flexibility so that I can respond to misconceptions as they arise. Lessons include time to review prior learning, to practise skills and apply what they have learnt.
I try to keep sessions as interactive as possible with a mixture of activities to help keep your child engaged. To help boost the enjoyment of learning, the last 10 minutes of the session consists of playing educational games. To get the most out of our sessions, students are encouraged to always try their best. I would much rather they have a go and learn from any mistakes than not to try at all.
I hold a clear, enhanced DBS certificate (update service) and I am committed to continuing to learn and develop as a tutor.
Recently, I have completed the following courses:
Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health
Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties
Level 3 Certificate in Dyspraxia and Dyscalculia Awareness
Level 3 Certificate in Safeguarding Practice
Outside of working as a tutor, I am learning Spanish. I am also learning to paint with watercolours. Being a student in these areas helps to keep me grounded in what it is like to learn and reminds me of the challenges students face when they are learning.
